Patricia Velásquez
Creativity is more than just film,
photographs, and canvas. It also inspires charity or philanthropy as well as
activism. Patricia Velasquez, an award-winning actress, history-making model an
ardent philanthropist, a fervent activist as well as a loving mom, applies a
constant creative spirit to all she does, whether it's starring in blockbusters
such as The Curse of La Llorona or launching the Wayuu Taya Foundation, and
being as a member of the UNESCO Board. She believes in intuition and a pioneer
of her own path. "I think of my career as an escalator," she said.
"I have taken every step. It was quite amazing to accomplish this, since
there is a sense of determination. I never stopped moving, just sat with my
head down. This metaphor is a close resemblance to the beginning of a new
phase. Born in Venezuela but growing up in France and Mexico and then moved to
Venezuela after a few years. Her parents, who worked as teachers in South
America, moved her family to a cramped apartment with no water and no elevators.
Patricia often carried large buckets of water up fifteen flights of stairs in
order to supply water. She tried to assist her family as much as possible,
despite studying engineering and intensive dance training. The pledge she made
to her family, which was the most important factor that helped her rise to the
top in the fashion industry, saw her being scouted for modeling in Milan. She
recalls being asked to travel to Italy by the fashion industry. "If I
could pay thirty dollars per month to Venezuela that would be worthwhile
because it will pay for all the water in the structure." Patricia's
accomplishment was a turning point in fashion as she drew the attention of
fashion industry professionals to South America for the first time. After
becoming "the first Karl Lagerfeld model ever photographed", she went
on to be featured in editorial spreads and front ads for Chanel and Dolce
& Gabbana. Her fame spread across the globe. she appeared on Oprah as
well as Ford Models' "Supermodel of the World" contest as well. She
also appeared on the cover of Marie Claire, Bazaar and Vogue.
