ALEX MORGAN BIO

Morgan was born July 2nd, 1989 to Pamela Morgan and Michael Morgan. They raised her along with her sisters, Jeni and Jeri, in the Los Angeles suburb of Diamond Bar. Morgan was an athlete of multiple sports throughout her childhood, however she began playing soccer when she was 14. Morgan then became a member of the Cypress Elite club team, winning the Coast Soccer League under-16 championship and coming in third place in the under-19 bracket. Morgan continued to refine her soccer skills at Diamond Bar High School. The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) selected Morgan as an All-American Athlete. She also participated in the Olympic Development Division's state and regional divisions. Morgan continued her soccer career in UC Berkeley. UC Berkeley. She led the California Golden Bears team's scoring during her first season. She helped bring the team to the NCAA Tournament all four years and even made it to the second round twice. Morgan was one of four finalists for the Honda Sports Award. She was also the first Hermann Trophy finalist from her school. Morgan completed her studies at Berkeley in the first semester of 2010 and was ranked 3rd among all-time goals, points, and assists. Morgan was able manage soccer careers at both the college and national levels during her studies. Morgan was injured in her ACL in her first season as an Berkeley player. She was not able to participate in training for the U.S. Under-20 Women's Soccer team until April. In Mexico, Morgan scored her debut international soccer goal during the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship. Morgan was also a participant at the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. She scored four goals and earned her team a gold medal. One of them was a win against Italy which secured the U.S. team the final spot in the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest member of the team, and he led the team to victory over France. Morgan, despite the U.S. losing to Japan in the final World Cup match, became the first American player to score either a goal or assist.
